You Are What You Watch

Personal Development

Assuming it’s true, that we are what we eat, then it’s very likely that we are also what we watch. The commercials I watched, or shall I say… obsessed about, as a kid helped shape my passion for creating great marketing messages. And now that I’m entrenched in the very industry I was entertained by I can’t help but be drawn to movies and TV shows about marketing.

Just like you I’m always evaluating the facts or qualities of a show and deciding whether it’s ‘good’ or ‘bad’. However, I also find myself being entertained by programs that foster my insatiable desire to see marketing ideas save the day (or be morbidly satisfied by the failures of others). I enjoy dissecting a shows’ cultural significance or the creative strategies that are in play. From time to time I come across a movie that speaks to a broader social context or elaborates on a trend I’m interested in, and it’s this kind of entertainment that invigorates me as a marketer.

So what do you watch? How does your entrainment efforts connect into what you’re most passionate about?
